combustion studios

WHO?

combustion studios is the name I do my software development work under, focusing mainly on interactive 3D visual applications which draw on a rich array of online content sources to create engaging experiences.

THE BRIEF

Originally an entirely static site where each new page had to be individually written, ensuring I carefully kept the same look between pages of the same type, I wanted an easy way to manage the content for my ever-increasing product range. Specifically, I needed to:

  • Unify product information and support pages, and automate the relationships between the two
  • Be able to edit content without having to spend time worrying about how my templates are laid out
  • Be able to release updates for my software and have information about the new version automatically reflect in the product information pages.
  • Make technical support automated, prominent and relevant.

WHAT I DID

I decided to implement the site as a bespoke template running on top of Wordpress.

Although Wordpress is best known as a blogging tool rather than a content management system, its lack of feature bloat made it ideal for crafting templates with unique functionality without having to contend with an overly complex backend.

The site went through a number of design iterations before settling on a colourful and sophisticated design which draws attention to relevant content, while helping users discover other information and products they may be interested in.
